Chao Garden: Evolved 1.4.6

Aquatic Mine, the Chao Board's fifth course. Chao Clash shields, dodges, parries and weapon select. Elemental particles take the chao's accent colour. Fixes to previews, finishes and move gating.

Aquatic Mine

  • New Chao Board course. Fifth on the ladder, inserted below Cargo Run; Cargo Run, Meteor Herd and Ring Divide keep their positions above it.
  • 180° open trough, radius 20. 3460 units, 21 segments, par 94.4s.
  • Standing water down the invert. Riding the floor costs speed, so the fast line sits a few degrees up the wall.
  • Measured: 87.4s and 1 crash holding the dry ledge, against 201.6s and 12 crashes coasting.
  • Mine carts parked at the ends of grind rails. A grind locks lateral position; jumping clears it.
  • Aquatic Mine counts toward the ice catalyst, which now requires 8 courses instead of 7.
  • Fixed: rails caught riders out of the air from any height, then steered them down the rail’s line. A rail is now caught only from the ground or on the way down.
  • Fixed: pressing jump while grinding never got a rider off the rail. The bail was undone by the collision pass on the same frame.

Chao Clash

  • Invulnerability draws as a ghost instead of a visibility flicker. Applies to spot dodge, air dodge, ledge grab and parry.
  • One air dodge per airtime. It ends the jump and the fighter falls.
  • Shields drain while held, about 6 seconds from full. A broken shield stuns for 60 frames.
  • The shield bubble is sized from remaining shield HP: it shrinks while held and drops in a step per hit.
  • Parry reflects projectiles and melee. 4-frame window, 8 frames of invulnerability, 16 frames of attacker lag.
  • Blocking uses the boxing stance. A held weapon tilts across the body.
  • Weapon select, one row per fighter under that fighter’s specials. It equips the weapon on the chao, shared with the garden and every other mode.

Move gating

  • A chao’s evolution type now counts as an element alongside any element it has earned. A run chao that buys the fire catalyst keeps its lightning arts instead of trading them away.
  • Fixed: the Bastion’s art required element “steel”, which no chao can obtain. It was unobtainable for the life of the feature. It now requires the weapon alone.

Specials editor

  • Fixed: choosing a special for a direction did nothing when the loadout already held four entries. The pick was discarded and the button kept its previous move, which returned on re-entry.
  • Fixed: support moves such as Rest and Squeak were selected automatically into the loadout, where no direction offers them and they cannot be equipped.
  • Fixed: the four moves shown as selected did not always match the four on the buttons.
  • A direction filled automatically is now marked auto.

Elemental effects

  • Particles take the chao’s accent hue. They previously travelled 45% of the way toward it, capped at 32°.
  • Saturation and lightness stay the element’s, so each element keeps its own tonal ramp.
  • White, grey and black accents leave the element’s colours unchanged.
  • Fixed: a white chao’s particles were shifted 173° toward an unrelated hue. The test for “this colour has no hue” read HSL saturation, which reports 0.43 for white (250,250,253).
  • Lightning particles spawn over a wider area: ring radius 0.14 to 0.24. Median plume radius 0.223 to 0.317, 90th percentile 0.302 to 0.401. Speed and lifetime are unchanged.
  • The lightning accent floats 0.28 units higher. Its arcs reach 0.655 from the accent’s centre against a 0.28 head clearance, so over half of all strikes were drawn inside the head. Not applied to Chaos Chao.

Finishes

  • Riftglass is now the clearest finish: transmission 1.0, attenuation distance 3.4, thickness 0.6, with a tinted inner glow.
  • The riftglass sun is 2.25× wider (radius 0.30 to 0.675) and its coronae take the chao’s accent colour. The core stays white.
  • Fixed: riftglass was flagged both transmissive and transparent, so it was composited twice and sorted against itself. Bodies flickered with parts missing, on phones only.
  • Fixed: a pale or white riftglass chao had no visible sun. The body reached full white before the sun was added.
  • Fixed: grafted animal parts and jewelled chao did not take the accent colour in their riftglass sun.
  • Fixed: the right half of a coloured chao’s markings was smeared, including dark/run’s crescent moon. Recoloured textures did not inherit the mirrored wrapping every shipped model uses.

Previews

  • Fixed: the Board Shop drew every chao and item thumbnail magnified into one corner.
  • Fixed: preview images could come out blank, because the offscreen canvas was read back after its contents had been discarded.
  • Fixed: the gear preview sized the chao from a partly loaded model and kept that size for the session.
  • Fixed: crystal and riftglass portraits flickered. Every transmissive portrait in a frame shared one render target; one is now drawn per frame.
  • Crystal in previews uses lower transmission and a smooth refraction, which removes the flicker without changing crystal in the garden.

Builds

  • The Android build produces arm64 only. The armeabi-v7a APK was built every release and never published.
