Chao Garden: Evolved 1.4.5
Ten elemental weapons won from Chao Clash bosses, a sanctuary to store chao in, and fixes across finishes, the garden, Chao Board, Chao Clash and the Arena.
Ten elemental weapons
- Every element now has a weapon, won from a named Chao Clash boss: Emberbrand (fire), Rimefang (ice), Stormfork (lightning), Undertow (water), Zephyr Loop (wind), Cairnbreaker (earth), Dawnpiercer (light), Nightreap (shadow), Bastion (steel), Emerald Rift (chaos).
- Each unlocks one Arena art, gated on holding both the weapon and the matching element.
- The weapons hang on a chao’s back at the same size and position as the ones already in the game.
The sanctuary
- Chao can be put away in a sanctuary and brought back later. A stored chao keeps everything it has, and there is no time limit.
- Bred eggs can be banked the same way. Banked eggs do not count against the garden’s chao limit.
- The stat page for a stored chao opens under the chao you tapped, rather than below the whole list.
- Fixed: a chao recalled after being sent away or stored was charged for the time it spent in storage. A month away brought it back with its happiness at zero. Time no longer passes for a chao that is not in the garden.
- Your last chao cannot be put away.
Finishes and colour
- Fixed: a gold or sapphire chao wearing an earned finish showed normal chao colours instead of its jewel. All eleven jewels now compose with Chaos Prism, Slipstream and Riftglass.
- Fixed: a prism chao never changed colour as it developed through its second evolution.
- Fixed: a bred chao was painted as the nearest of thirteen standard colours instead of its own shade whenever its model loaded — at birth, on reincarnation and on evolution.
- Fixed: Rainbow has never rendered. It was guarded on a flag that stopped being set three versions of the renderer ago.
- Fixed: a prism chao’s reflection in the pond was green.
- Fixed: an elemental chao’s effects were static in the dojo, and in the classroom they were emitted at the camera instead of at the chao.
- The four earned finishes now show a mark beside a chao’s name, as shiny, metal and crystal already did.
- A crystal jewel chao is marked as crystal rather than as a plain jewel.
Chao Board
- Fixed: phones had a speed advantage over PCs on the same course. Touch riders were given the tuck’s drag benefit permanently without its cornering cost. Touch now has a TUCK button, which can be held or set to toggle from the pause menu.
- The TUCK button sits above the speed counter. It was previously drawn on top of it.
- Fixed: the board was the only 3-D mode still drawing chao without their finishes, so metal, mono, crystal and prism all rendered flat.
- Ring Divide reads as debris in orbit rather than a lit road: the road surface is black, and the ice and rubble carry the theme’s own colours.
- Fixed: Ring Divide’s rubble rendered black. Its tints were computed and then discarded. The marker posts on the four ribbon courses were affected too.
- Fixed: rubble arrived in a visible wall ahead of the rider.
Chao Clash and the Arena
- Fixed: four shadow attacks connected and dealt no damage.
- Fixed: knockback did not scale with damage in any way a player could see, and a weapon’s hitbox was a narrow band at chest height.
- Fixed: the scythe’s blade was not attached to its handle, and other weapons had parts sitting clear of each other.
- Fixed: jabs and tilts stepped the chao forward. Only specials do now.
- A fully charged attack shows a white flash.
- Fixed: a Chaos Chao’s ordinary punch used chaos rings instead of its own element.
- Chao Clash announces a weapon won from a boss, as the Arena and Karate already did.
- Grabs beat shields. Shielding previously made a chao immune to grabs.
The garden
- Fixed: chao could not climb out of the pond at its back ledge. Three separate causes: a chao in the water was never allowed to try, the climb probed the direction it was walking rather than the surface it was touching, and chao heading for the pond were excluded from climbing entirely.
- Chao can climb through a waterfall.
- Fixed: a chao climbed out of the middle of the pond, hung in mid-air, and then crossed to the bank in one step.
- A hungry chao with no fruit on the ground shakes a tree.
Controls
- The left stick moves a pointer and the d-pad steps through menus, in every screen.
- Fixed: Escape closed the whole mode instead of the current menu.
- Chao Clash’s stage and fighter lists are grids: A to enter, B to leave.
- The pointer moves faster. Its speed is now a screen width per second rather than a fixed number of pixels, so it is the same speed on every display, and it accelerates while the stick is held.
Performance
- Fixed: opening the stats or sanctuary panel with a large roster could lock the game for several seconds. Portraits are now built only while they are on screen.
- The loading bar reports real progress. It previously spent 78% of its length on 4% of the loading, then held at 78% and 90% for several seconds each.
